So then, the plan was to head out to Turn 14 Distribution for their Pit and Paddock cars and coffee season opener. I had a bunch of friends that would be there and on top of that we’ve never been able to make it to one of those because of specific circumstances with the car. It was a week out and everything looked to be shaping up great. The weather looked great, so I was just excited to get down there. As the week progressed, we started to see slight changes in the weather. It went from sunny to cloudy and trending in a particular direction. The car is on slicks, so any rain in the forecast, we just keep it tucked away because lord knows, you want to avoid any bad incidents if time and preparation allows for it.
The Friday before the event, which was a Saturday, and before heading to work, I took the time to go wash the car and just get prepared for the drive, which was 2 hrs away. I washed it, took it back, and as I was covering it back up something told me to check the weather. I did and all I saw was rain across the board from 2am to 1pm, which by that time, the event would be over. That was a really big let down. I felt like I wasted my time washing it, so I just covered it up and left to go to work. The next morning I woke up and didn’t think about going anywhere. As far as I was concerned, the last time I checked, it was a 100% chance of rain, so I had made up my mind not to go. I looked out the window and it was completely dry. This literally blew my mind! I got dressed rather quickly and got over to the car as fast as I could to get her uncovered, so I could get on the road. It was about 8 am when I got on the road and I had a 2hr drive ahead of me. l said to myself, I will get there at ten. But, I can do 9:30 lol. I got there with great time to spare. As soon as I pulled in, I got a great welcome and surprisingly as late as I was, there was a parking spot up front waiting for me. I was really thankful to the Turn 14 guys for doing that for me.
All in all, the event was great! I got to meet a bunch of really good people, saw some old friends, and got to see some things I have never seen before. Such as, the nice hills wagon van from the 80’s, which had all original parts, a stove, bed and everything inside it. The setup was really cool. I was able to connect with Hyper Speed Media to do a quick story about ourselves, as well as the build, and put some information out about what we have planned, so check it out.
