MEET SHERWIN
In 1993, my parents brought my siblings and I to this country for a hope of a better life. At the age of 6 in a new country, new surroundings, and new people, it can be somewhat overwhelming. Growing up in the concrete jungle, as most would call it, was no easy feat especially in the south Bronx. Every year presented new challenges, but with that came growth and insight.
In 2007, when I graduated high school I had so many plans. My whole life was ahead of me, or so I thought. It was revealed to me that I was an immigrant and couldn’t, work, go to the college I wanted, and worse of all, I couldn’t obtain a drivers license. I wanted to drive all my life, from playing with matchbox cars as a child in the dirt in the Caribbean to sitting under a table and pretending it was a car to drive. My heart was completely shattered. The trials and tribulations were only just the beginning. The next 6-7 years were the hardest years of my life thus far. It was only thorough a miracle that by the age of 27 I was granted the ability to become legal in this country and with that my dormant dreams could now take front and center and I could start to cross them off my list.
Immediately a driver’s license was on the top of my list; soon followed my first car a 2013 Evo and this started my road to eventually becoming a road racer on a track and Hill climb driver. I am still on my way to continuous improvement, but my goal is podium after podium victory and as God is my witness, I will have it!!! I have such a long way in my life, but I have so much more to accomplish. Just looking forward to what I am yet to achieve, thankful for my past because it made me who I am today and grateful for the present.
